From Scandinavia with love

Since IKEA emmerged from Sweden and spread around the world we have gotten used to the "minimalism" term more than ever before. But Scandinavia is not minimalistic only in interiors, but also in music. And this is very positive. Björk, MEW, ATLAS, Acres Wild, etc. Different countries, beautiful songwriting.

Scandinavia might seem far and cold, but it is the best part of the world. Forget about Los Angeles and Hollywood. These countries are the real deal. They have the Aurora Borealis, LEGO (Denmark. Yes, the tiny country that conquered the world with little bricks!), IKEA, Kanelbullar (OMG, this is the best dessert out there!), ... Although we could go around for days talking about these countries, the thing we're discussing here is their music.

ATLAS has been previously featured in the blog, but it's never enough to adress this awesome band. This one is from Stockholm, the land of the IKEA, Volvo and the Aurora Borealis.

Mew, Mew, Mew. One of the coolest and most brilliant (and most famous as well) bands of the Nordic countries. If there is an authority on synthesizer and pleasurable voice we're talking about Mew, from Denmark, the LEGO land.

Who better than Olafur Arnalds to explain us how playing the piano well really is about? Well, besides him and Nils Frahm (who is German, but still...), there's not a lot of people who play this good and write this awesome. Let yourself evade to your most beautiful dreams with this fantastic and talented artist.

This is a photograph of an old Swedish postcard. It's not related to music, but since we're discussing the Scandinavian culture a bit here is a little piece of history.

Sweden, Denmark, Iceland, Norway all together present us a new way of making music and expressing culture. It's not the minimalism that holds them from making music. Instead it is one of the beauties of their songwriting. Go, Scandinavians!
