Of Monsters And Men's My Head Is An Animal: 8 years later

The Scandinavian music scene is proving to be one of the most beautiful out there. It might be minimalist, but it sure is very complete and heart fulfilling. This time we adress Icelandic band Of Monsters And Men. The group is sort of a mix between folk and indie. It features an upbeat, happy, very forward sound. We can find heavy Arcade Fire influence in here.

My Head Is An Animal is a proof of what making great music is in the 2010s, which is fantastic. It was released in 2012, under Republic Records and made a huge impact in the music scene in that year, particularly in the US, with "Little Talks" being the biggest hit of the band. The song has a huge brass sound in the beginning, which is quite loud, but in a positive way. It's very "upbeat-ish".

Iceland might be cold, far, but it sure is a country of natural beauties and good music. Music with meaning, like the rest of the Scandinavian scene.

"Dirty Paws" is another strong part of the LP. It begins with a simplistic guitar finger playing, that isntantly reminds us of Passenger, another living proof of the beautiful folk scene. It also has some One Republic in the middle, particularly because of the beat. But this doesn't take Of Monsters And Men's unique character. It instead makes the fans of these artists feel even more confortable and "at home". The lyrics have meaning, tell a story. "Dirty Paws" is HUGE!

But the highlight of the point is "Mountain Sound". A fast track, but so, so, so good. Big sounding compressed drums, astonishing lyrics, instrumentals, chord progression. We could go around for hours mentioning the good things that make this beautiful track...

My Head Is An Animal is a positive sign that we still have a little light at the end of the tunnel and we can still dream of a better, more meaningful music scene, at least for those who enjoy great music and want to change today's messed up, pop-ish, trash industry.
